Microbial Innovation Platform

What opportunities are hidden inside microbial biodiversity?

We identify opportunities emerging from microbial biodiversity and transform them into knowledge, technologies, and value for society.

From Knowledge to Value.

Discovery is only the beginning.

Microbial biodiversity holds countless possibilities. Creating value requires more than discovering them.

At LEFERBAC, we observe, understand, and select opportunities with the potential to become meaningful technologies.

LEFERBAC innovation process illustrating five stages: Observe, Understand, Discern, Develop, and Create Value.

OBSERVE

We begin by paying attention.

UNDERSTAND

Knowledge requires interpretation.

DISCERN

Not every possibility should become a technology.

DEVELOP

Scientific ideas become practical solutions.

CREATE VALUE

Innovation fulfills its purpose when it benefits society.

From microbial opportunities to biotechnology solutions.

LEFERBAC is building a scientific platform that connects microbial exploration, critical scientific assessment, and collaborative technology development.

Our approach is designed to discover biological opportunities, discern which ones merit further investigation, and explore their potential for real-world applications.

DISCOVER

Reveal opportunities within microbial biodiversity.

We explore microbial biodiversity to identify microorganisms, biological functions, and processes with scientific and technological potential.

Microbial exploration · Biological functions · Emerging opportunities

DISCERN

Know what is worth developing.

We critically assess scientific potential, technical feasibility, and application relevance to identify opportunities that warrant further investigation and development.

Scientific assessment · Technical feasibility · Application relevance

CO-DEVELOP

Transform scientific potential into innovation.

We collaborate with companies and research partners to explore promising opportunities through applied research and technology development.

Co-development · Scientific collaboration · Industry connection

LET’S DISCUSS AN OPPORTUNITY

One microbial innovation platform. Different paths to value.

TECHNOLOGICAL ASSETS & CAPABILITIES

Beyond potential: evidence to move forward.

With its own R&D facilities, a collection of microbial isolates, and capabilities in bioprocessing, microbiological characterization, and physicochemical analyses, LEFERBAC generates scientific evidence to inform technology development decisions, helping reduce uncertainty, prioritize resources, and advance a new generation of bioproducts.

Collaborations with research institutions expand our opportunities for investigation and development, complementing our in-house experimental capabilities.

Building science with purpose.

LEFERBAC is a microbial biotechnology company with its own R&D infrastructure, dedicated to transforming scientific knowledge into technologies and bioproducts.

We connect scientific knowledge, microbial biodiversity, and real-world challenges to develop biotechnology solutions with the potential to create meaningful value for industry and society.

LEFERBAC was founded at the intersection of microbiology and fermentation, drawing on its founder’s more than three decades of experience bridging science and industry.

Today, that experience drives a microbial innovation platform that identifies and critically assesses biological opportunities, advancing them toward new technologies and bioproducts through in-house R&D and strategic collaborations.

FOUNDER & SCIENTIFIC LEADERSHIP

Ingrid Akamine, PhD

Founder & Scientist

PhD in Microbiology with more than three decades of professional and entrepreneurial experience in the food sector, particularly in food technology, fermentation, and industry consulting. Her career combines scientific expertise, managerial capabilities, and an understanding of companies’ technical and business challenges. At LEFERBAC, this experience guides an R&D approach grounded in critical judgment: assessing evidence, feasibility, and relevance to identify which opportunities merit further development into technologies and bioproducts.
